About Us

W+W Architects

The practice was founded by Ed Walsh and Alan Walsh.  Our passion lies in the area of smaller Scale works, in particular one-off, environmentally friendly homes and smaller commercial and public buildings.

Our Story

We have experience in a wide range of project types, ranging from domestic extensions to commercial and public buildings.

We strive to create buildings that do not shout, but have an architectural solution that comes across as understated, yet powerful and well detailed.

The practice is committed to providing long term, practical solutions to client needs. We rely on extensive experience gained on a wide variety of successful projects including Tower Houses, Churches, Schools, and One-Off Houses, involving the use of traditional building materials and the latest construction technologies as required.

We approach each job as a unique task. This leads to personalised solutions for our clients that are tailored to their individual needs.

The aim, particularly with dwellings, is to always explore the benefits and possibilities of the site, and to deliver highly efficient and enjoyable, well-proportioned spaces filled with light & comfort.

Design solutions are based on modern concepts of the use of space, executed in a sustainable manner and supported on site at construction stage by detailed inspection and close co-operation with the Building Contractor.

We have a particular interest in providing economical, highly insulated construction with energy conservation solutions.

The practice is located in Cahir, Co. Tipperary, providing easy access to most parts of the South of the country. As a small office, individual attention to each project is assured. We provide all construction documents, drawings, 3D sketches and photo records in- house.

As a registered architectural practice, we can undertake both Design and Assigned Certifier roles under the new Building regulations 2014.

Frequently Asked Questions

What services do Walsh + Walsh Architects provide?

We provide full architectural services — from feasibility and design to planning, tender, and construction management. Each project is tailored to the client’s needs.

Do you take on smaller projects such as home extensions or renovations?

Yes. We regularly work on high-quality extensions and renovations, applying the same level of design rigour as we do to larger new builds.

How early should we engage an architect?

Ideally, before purchasing a site or setting a fixed budget. Early consultation helps align expectations and avoid costly changes later.

How do you approach sustainability and energy performance?

We integrate energy performance into every stage — from orientation and insulation to ventilation, materials, and renewable systems.

What’s the typical timeline for a residential project?

A typical house project includes feasibility (4–6 weeks), planning (8–16 weeks), detailed design (8–12 weeks), and construction (6–12 months). Timelines vary depending on site and complexity.
